✔︎ Confidently control what your dog can have, and where they can go.
✔︎ When you don't want them to pick up or pursue things in their environment, use the simple command: Leave It.
✔︎ When your dog already has something in their mouth, we use the command: Drop It.
Leave It / Drop It is great for training your pup to foster safe and fun times together, while strengthening your bond.
Everything is an "IT"!
Because we don't say "leave the squirrel" or "drop the ball"...the excess words confuse the dog.
To "speak dog" we want to be clear, concise, and consistent and call everything an "IT".
Teach your dog the simple 'Leave It' command to prevent them from picking up or pursuing unwanted items
When your dog already has something in their mouth, the 'Drop It' command helps them understand to let go
Clear and consistent communication makes it easier for your dog to follow your guidance and stay safe
You want your dog to stay safe.
When you get them to respond to Leave It / Drop It commands, you keep them from going after something unhealthy or unsavory in their environment (dead squirrel), or from going somewhere you don't want them to go (over to the dog in the park).
It is also used with a toy or something good, but it isn't the right time for them to have it.
You're also helping them get something out of their mouth after they have picked it up... especially if it's for their safety, or for play, or whenever!
These foundational commands are great for puppies... they are like vacuums sucking up everything (should have named them Hoover).

"John trained our 80 pound labradoodle, Arlo. John’s dog training skills are by far the best in town. He works with the pets through praise and repetition. John builds trust and bonds quickly with the dogs he trains. We continued to work with John after the initial training was over until Arlo was fully trained off leash. He is such a well behaved dog thanks to John."

"John is the most amazing dog trainer. He was the 3rd trainer we had for our 2 yr old rowdy border collie/blue healer mix pup. We were at our wits end. John taught us how to effectively communicate and respond to our pup. I’m not sure where we’d be today had we not hired John."

"Yes…I am on my second crazy Goldendoodle, Harley, who I absolutely love BUT he needed so much more than I could give him so I hired John Walton to help me! He worked miracles and Harley now responds to commands and he is so much happier. I learned how to control him by spending quality time and by making sure he uses his brain… because he is so smart!"

"Our strong-willed, 15 month old, Airedale Terrier just completed basic training from John and she is such a pleasure to enjoy the outside world with now. John evokes love and respect from the dog which brings out a willingness in the dog to want to obey and please the owner. (Without the use of treat after treat!) When he shows you a training technique, he explains the "why" behind it. He genuinely cared about our dog and encouraged us to call him between lessons with any questions or concerns. I highly recommend John Walton for any of your training needs!"

"John is simply the best! That is what our friends who recommended him told us. It is true. My husband and I have done both private and group lessons with him in Boise ID. John has trained dogs for many years, and knows how to teach you to train your dog. We have used other trainers, who were very good in their own way, but our super high energy chocolate lab who trained with John is the best trained of the 3 dogs we have had."
